Work has started to replace Barwell's ageing sewage system. A new pipeline is being laid between the Pumping Station near Barwell Park and the Waste Water Treatment Works near Burbage. This will alleviate the current flooding issues in the River Tweed and help improve water quality in the River. Severn Trent has produced an informative leaflet, although confusingly this refers to "Earl Shilton" despite the fact the plans are for Barwell. |

“ I think that the improvements to ‘Old Village’ is the best thing that could happen in Barwell Centre and the surrounding streets off of the village centre as this is the first impression the people see on their journey through Barwell. Give the right impression of a village that cares, then trade will improve and just maybe more traders will take up the opportunity to cash in on a growing village. ” Barwell West is a planned development known as a Sustainable Urban Extension which will be built over a 15-20 year period from 2013 onwards. It is a mixed use development that will include up to 2,500 homes, 9 hectares of employment land, over 100 acres of landscaped countryside with key views and nature reserves maintained and enhanced. A Community Hub will provide a Primary School to serve some of the needs of the development, a small corner shop, and an option for a Medical Centre if a village centre site cannot be found. The Barwell West Development Consortium has submitted an outline planning application which includes important details which are currently being tested by several authorities to check that they will meet the needs of Barwell and the wider area. To help communicate widely on their proposals, the developers have set up a web site which contains more information about their proposals. The plans themselves have been sensitively designed to create over 100 acres of parkland, whilst maintaining important nature conservation sites such as the Tweed River Valley and Little Fields Farm Meadow. |
